Andy Goldsworthy
Who He is
Andy Goldsworthy was born in 1956 in Chesire, England but is now living in Scotland. He attended both Bradford College and Preston Polytech while studying Art and Design. One of his biggest inspirations was Robert Long. Goldsworthy's career began after he attend a presentation by Long in which he described a type of art called “land art.” After a childhood of manual labor and being outside all the time Goldsworthy longed to be making his art outdoors and so he started to experiment. He created one of his first natural works in 1985 which he called Touching North. This work consisted of four large arches made out of snow. After he created this, he started to get a bit of recognition until his art grew to be what it is today.

Why I'm Influenced by Him
Andy Goldsworthy is probably my favorite artist. His idea of art is incredibly unique. He takes the idea of nature being beautiful somewhere that hasn't been discovered yet. I love the fact that his works are made completely from nature, he doesn't even use any tools to make them. What better way to capture the beauty of nature is there than to make art out of it and then let nature itself take over? His ideas are also relatively close to mine. In fact, before I even knew of him I had done one or two similar things. I would love to try even more related works.
