Salvador Dali was born in Figueres, Spain on May 11, 1904 and died on January 23, 1989. Dali's father was a very strict man while he mother was not. Growing up, Dali was prone to fits of anger and this caused his father and sometimes larger schoolmates to become violent towards him. Dali's drawing talent started to show at an early age and his parents even built him his own studio before he went to art school. In 1921 Dali's mother died of breast cancer.
In 1919 he had his first public exhibition and in 1922 he headed to the Academia de San Fernando. However, he had many issues in school. He ended up never graduating. He dabbled in various art movements. In 1926 and 1929 he made numerous trips to Paris and met some influential artists of the time such as Pablo Picasso. He finally created his first surrealist work of art in 1929. By 1930 he was already well known for his surrealist work.

Why I'm Influenced by Him
As a day-dreamer, I have many pictures and other worlds floating around in my mind. It is fairly difficult to bring these pictures out, especially with my chosen medium. However, they often times come out whenever I am using other mediums. Salvador Dali often created his paintings based on dreams he had. It is influential to me to see that an artist became so successful and well known with some of the same ideas. I also enjoy looking at works like these. It makes me want to explore my own similar ideas.
